Saliva testing is an affordable, non-invasive way for us to assess the levels of a variety of hormones in your body, particularly your reproductive (sex) and adrenal (stress) hormones.
Saliva testing has been used effectively for decades. One of the profound advantages with saliva testing is that your body’s saliva producing cells allow ONLY unbound (‘free’) hormones into the salivary ducts. Saliva testing specifically measures free, unbound hormone levels, which gives a more accurate reading about how much hormone a patient’s body is really being influenced by.
In order to accurately study how hormones clinically affect your body, we need to look at hormone levels dynamically. In other words, the way your hormones fluctuate is just as important as their level at any given one point in time. This includes your body’s cycles and changes – sleep/wake cycles, seasonal mood changes, a woman’s monthly menstrual cycle, etc., and is a significant advantage of saliva testing over other methods.
